Frequently asked questions.

Getting Started

  • If your child avoids writing, tires quickly, has messy handwriting, or struggles with coordination tasks like using scissors, they may benefit from occupational therapy. A free screening is a great first step.

  • Handwriting plays a critical role in early childhood development. It not only enhances fine motor skills but also strengthens cognitive abilities like memory, attention, and learning. Research shows that writing by hand improves reading, spelling, and critical thinking skills, helping children process and retain information more effectively. Strong handwriting skills also build confidence and independence in the classroom, supporting academic success across all subjects.

Services

  • We offer handwriting tutoring and parent consultations, both tailored to your child’s needs. All sessions use evidence-based strategies and the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum.

  • A full assessment of your child’s fine motor and handwriting skills, a detailed report, and a Handwriting Without Tears workbook to support practice at home.

  • Our handwriting and fine motor therapy services are currently available at Arboro Empowered or through in-home visits.

    • Arboro Empowered: Located on Old Lake Jeanette Road in Greensboro, this welcoming space is designed to provide a comfortable and supportive environment for your child’s therapy sessions.

    • In-home Visits: We offer the flexibility of in-home sessions, bringing therapy directly to your home for convenience and personalized care.

Please reach out if you have questions about scheduling or location preferences!

Scheduling

  • After completing the intake form, we’ll reach out to book your child’s first session. You’re also welcome to contact us directly to get started.

  • Cancellations with 24+ hours' notice may be rescheduled. Late cancellations or no-shows will be charged the session rate.

Payment

  • Payment is collected securely through Ivy Pay, a HIPAA-compliant platform designed specifically for therapists. After your first session, you'll receive a text message with a secure link to enter your preferred payment method.

Ivy Pay can charge your debit, credit, HSA, or FSA card, and your card will be billed automatically after each session.

There’s no app to download—just a simple, secure process to keep things easy and private.

  • Fine Motor Foundations is a private pay practice and does not bill insurance directly. However, we gladly accept HSA/FSA cards and ESA+ funds.

Upon request, a superbill (detailed receipt) can be provided for you to submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Please check with your provider to confirm your coverage.
